Terminal Apex Series

An all-original series from HeavyMetalConcepts about unique cars, their owners, and car culture in general.  Each episode focuses on a specific owner and their custom built vehicle, and dives into why we as car enthusiasts are driven to build and enjoy our cars the way we do, as well as details on the car itself.

Conceptualize / Pre-production

Create interview questions to drive story, storyboard message and premise of series & each episode.

Source / Scout / Arrange Locations

Pre-scout, permit, and secure locations for each selected participant based on their location.

Source Participants

Put a call out to our network of industry friends/contacts for participants in the features, and coordinate their involvement.

All field production

7 locations across the country, 1 day shooting at each, each shoot day would result in 1 complete episode of the series. Shot with a RED camera package w/ various pieces of support gear, depending on location.  Typical crew consisted of 1 camera operator/director, and 1 production assistant.

All post production

Edit/release 7 standalone episodes, each averaging 8 minutes in length.  Complete with color grade and release schedule/plan.

THE CHALLENGE

Develop an all-original automotive series from scratch that would appeal to a general audience with a simple relatable message, with 0 outside monetary support, influence, or direction.

THE SOLUTION

Develop an initial pilot episode to use as an example to which the other episodes would follow, to garner interest from future participants. Upon collection of participants, spend 1 field production day with each per episode in multiple locations across the country following the templated production plan generated with episode 1. With the completion of field production and post work, a release plan of 1 episode per week for 7 weeks would follow, building a committed group of followers/viewers with a predictable episodic format. Each episode would average 8 minutes in length, and generate a combined total of over 750,000 views in the first 6 months with 0 ad dollars spent, and would maintain an above average retention rate. The series went on to be featured on several major automotive websites.
